Girls Volleyball and Tennis Seasons

By Maria Legenza

The Newman Catholic High School Varsity volleyball team of 2011 has been building a new foundation for the team due to the loss of four talented seniors from 2010. With such a great loss from those talented players, the team has continued to strive for success with the help and motivation of head coach Betty Lange. Coach Betty pushes the players beyond their capabilities and expects nothing less than perfection.

Currently Newman has 9 wins and 12 losses. On Thursday, September 22nd, in Tomahawk, the team played a benefit game for breast cancer awareness, also known as “The Dig for a Cure.” Unfortunately, Newman lost all three games, but they tried their best to compete in this non-conference match.

The name “Fighting Cardinals,” is definitely represented by the Newman Catholic Varsity Volleyball Team of 2011, as they continue to fight to win.

The Newman Catholic High School Varsity tennis team of 2011 has been doing excellently in their first 26 matches. They have only lost one match so far this season.

Sarah Connolly and Carolina Larrain, the varsity doubles team, have been blowing out every match they played. Daley Rupar, a singles player, has also been sweeping away the competition. The team is currently ranked third in the state.

Their strong academics, hard work in practice, and successful match play are what head coach Deb Rupar expects. This team certainly shows all of those qualities.

The varsity tennis team of 2011 has been showing immense effort in every match they play and win.
